How to play Snakes and Ladders

This XH0411 page combines Snakes and Ladders with a guide to the decisions it asks you to make. Reach square 100 exactly. A roll past 100 leaves the token where it is. Use first-round orientation to give your round a clear purpose.

First-round orientation

Before playing, identify the objective and the input controls. Use your first round to learn what changes after a valid action.

Your goal

Reach square 100 exactly. A roll past 100 leaves the token where it is.

Step by step

  1. Player 1 rolls first, starting before square 1.
  2. Move the number of squares shown by the die.
  3. Follow a snake or ladder when landing on its starting square.
  4. Alternate turns until one player reaches 100.

Controls

Use the on-screen controls with a mouse or touch.

A useful example

From square 98, rolling 2 wins. Rolling 3 overshoots and leaves the token at 98.

Watch out for this
